Tracking Locations With Google Maps: Using Additional Software

This article will be useful for those who want to track the location of the person on the map who has a smartphone or tablet on Android. Collected a complete set of features and applications with which you can track a person. WHY? There can be many options for finding out where the person is, from the banal to find out where the child is now, to where is my husband? This article is not intended to find out the motive, but only to provide the tools with which to perform surveillance on Android.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Almost all modern Android smartphones and tablets have GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile communication. If GPS is directly related to find out your exact location, then Wi-Fi and GSM/3G/LTE can indirectly show your position as well. Now our task is to make this information be transmitted to us in order to trace on a map of the person exactly from a few meters to a couple of kilometers.

WAYS TO TRACK A PERSON’S LOCATION ON ANDROID

Google offers 3 ways how to find out the location on the map, for two of them you need to know someone else’s account and password.

WAY #1 FROM GOOGLE. FRIENDS ON THE MAP

WAY NUMBER 2 FROM GOOGLE. REMOTE CONTROL –

You need to know the account and password of the person you are trying to track. – Download the app “Remote Control” or go from your computer in a browser to the page “Remote Control”. – Sign in with the account of the person you want to track, and then you will have access to the location of the device on the map

WAY #3 FROM GOOGLE. CHRONOLOGY

You must know the account and password of the person you are trying to track. Unlike “Remote Management” method Chronology does not show the current location at the current minute, but it is possible to track the movement of the person throughout the day, week, month. – Go to “Chronology” page in your browser – Select the date you are interested, and then you will have access to the movement of “object” for all of this time Now let’s look at other applications that allow you to find out a person’s location.

APPLICATION WhereMy.Tracker

In order to find out where the person is, you will need to install a special application “WhereMy.Tracker. The application does not work in “hidden mode” or “spy mode”, that is, it notifies the user that you are trying to find out where he is. The application works for 3 days in trial mode, further 99 p/month. In order for everything to work properly, you must install the application on Android, to register, for tracking to use the geolocation apps or web service.

GPS TRACKING APP PRO

The way of tracking is as follows:

1. You install the application

2. Specify your phone number for registration

3. Invite other users, they install the application

4. Put the necessary people on the list

5. Keep track of their movement.

That’s it! At the moment, these are the most popular ways to track a person’s position on the map. Any Android device supports a large number of free geolocation applications from the official store. Google itself offers services to track the location of the device – google history. The user, if desired, can remotely clear the contents of the smartphone, lock the screen. Below is an instruction on how to view the Google location history.

GEODATA IN YOUR PHONE – WHAT IS IT

Google chronology is compiled from geolocation data – determining the location of a device in real time (tablet, smartphone). You don’t need satellite systems to track your device, you can determine your phone’s position using the nearest cellular stations, by the point of entry to the Internet. Geolocation helps to determine the positioning of the person who uses a smartphone.

This technology is used for a variety of purposes:

1. When constructing the nearest route to a given destination. If a person uses a navigator, Google needs to know your original starting point to plot the path. A detailed travel schedule is saved in history so that the user can access it quickly if necessary.

2. tracking stolen, lost devices. Geolocation will show you where your smartphone is at the moment. If you lost it, can’t remember where you left it, you can go back and find your device.

3. Parental control. Children from school age already have their own cell phone, through which his location is monitored.

HOW GOOGLE DETERMINES THE LOCATION OF THE DEVICE

Geodata in your phone is transmitted to Google in several ways. If one of them is not available, the other is used. The company calculates the geodata of the mobile using: – mac address; – built-in GPS; – ip-address; – mobile network. Getting the most accurate data quickly is possible if Wi-Fi and GPS are activated on the phone. The main advantage of searching through a wireless network is that the device is assigned an IP address upon entry. It makes it easier to find the phone’s location, and if the person is outside with the GPS turned on, the accuracy will be even better. With all the ways of obtaining information, Google is able to specify a geo-position with a radius of up to a few meters.

GOOGLE MOVEMENT HISTORY

The service collects information about the user’s route even when the map app is turned off. Google location history is stored in a database, stored in two sections at once – “Map History” and “Chronology”. This happens if a person has tethered the device in the Google account settings. The device can send additional information to the server, for example, if there was a failure in the transmission of geolocation data. The phone transmits the following information: – connection duration, connection quality with Wi-Fi, cellular network, Bluetooth, GPS; – location access setting data; – Reports on crashes, reboots of the device; – information about the programs that enable or disable geolocation; – battery level.

HOW TO ENABLE ACCESS TO GEODATA ON ANDROID

This feature is available to the user after tying the device to a Google account, but it can be disabled and re-enabled at any time. You can turn it on through the “Location History” section of the Google service. To do this, you do not need a computer, all actions are carried out directly from the phone following the instructions: 1. Open the “Settings” menu on your cell phone. 2. Find your Google account there, go to it. Tap on “Locations,” and then tap on “Location History. 4. In this section, you can enable the option by tapping the switch. You can also activate the determination of the device coordinates through another section – “Tracking actions”. This is done according to the following algorithm:

1. Go to your Google account.

2. Go to the Google settings menu.

3. Find the “Activity Tracking” section.

Activate the “Location History” option.

GOOGLE ROUTE MOVEMENT

You can view your movement data via Google Maps using the mobile app or your computer account. You can view Your Timeline tool records if you turn it on in advance on your smartphone. A person can select an exact date from the calendar or a segment of time, and the service will display the places visited, routes of movements. If a person has location detection when creating photos and uploaded them to the Google server, the timeline will display them as well. The user can give the places he visits often unique tags or reset them, for example: home, work, favorite cafe. If necessary, a person can clear the entire travel history or erase a specific line of the route. This can be done for privacy reasons, although Google assures that location data is only visible to you. This information is not available to other users.

DELETING GOOGLE LOCATION HISTORY

It is possible to partially or completely erase a user’s route data. To do this, a person can use access to the account from a computer or via mobile.

To completely erase the history, do the following:

1. Open the settings on your phone, find your Google account.

2. Launch the app settings, select “Locations,” then “Location History.”

3. Scroll down the page, click on “Manage Actions”. The Google Maps app will launch.

4. Click on the three vertical dots at the top right of the screen.

5. Tap on the “Settings” line and select “Delete location history”.

This will completely delete your travel history. In some apps, this action may cause errors.

You can partially erase the route data through the website.

To do this, perform the following steps:

1. Go to maps.google.com/locationhistory, log in with your password and login to your Google account.

2. You can select one of the parameters by which the information will be sorted:

o By date. Click on “Delete this day’s history”. You can select a range of several days to erase the history for that period.

o By individual locations. You can select contour points from the list on the map, confirm your intention to erase the data in the pop-up window.

o All data – click on “Delete all history”.

HOW TO DISABLE GEODATA TRANSFER ON YOUR SMARTPHONE

History is saved from all devices that are associated with the account: tablet, phone, smart watch, etc. If you pause information collection, old routes are not deleted. There are two ways to disable the location data feature: through the browser or the cell phone app.

From the Internet Explorer, follow these instructions:

1. Open your account, go to your location settings from the Tracking Activity page.

2. Move the toggle opposite the history line to the inactive state.

You can turn off tracking through the Google application as follows:

1. Launch the Google app.

2. Tap on the profile picture, go to the account.

3. Go to “My Account”, then “Privacy”, click on “Tracking Activity” and click on “Location History”.

4. Here you can deactivate or enable the functionality.

WHEN GOOGLE ANDROID LOCATION HISTORY MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE

Devices from Apple can’t use location history from Google in maps version older than 3.2.1.

Users can enable history through other applications from Google, then the maps will use information from them, routes will be stored in the account. Service does not work under the following conditions: – your region of residence does not support this feature; – the account is not suitable for age restrictions; – Manually turned off the content update function in the background or geolocation;

– The account has been provided by an institution or organization that has banned location tracking by its administrator.

Google can track many things. Your Timeline is a Google Maps tool that allows users to track the places they have visited on any given day. Your Timeline shows the routes they took to get there, and the photos they clicked along the way, which Google neatly stores away in Google Photos. The feature claims that your Timeline is private and only you can see it.

With the same technology, Google tells you the traffic information in real time. You can’t be privy to your Timeline feature. Take it if you want to be tracked 24X7 or leave it if you don’t want to be tracked. Maybe you are all right if you get tracked from time to time. The choice is yours! It’s a known trait, we read about it often, but still not many people use it. Some people use it without knowing that they are using a feature that tracks their every move. This article will help you understand the features and how to activate or deactivate it as needed.

TURN ON LOCATION HISTORY

If you have a Google account, you can use the Timeline feature on your computer or Android cell phone. Google tracks your location using Google Maps, which runs on your Android phone and the Internet as well. Google also uses search and browsing information, GPS, Wi-Fi, cellular towers, and device sensors such as gyroscopes and accelerometers to create a timeline. To access this feature, you need to enable location history on your computer or cell phone. It supports phones running Android 2.3 or higher. To activate this feature on your computer: Note: The steps listed to perform the various functions in this article are more or less the same, but the options may vary depending on the version of your desktop OS and the phone device you are using. – On your Android phone, go to Settings> Location Services> Location (ON)> Location Services.

If you haven’t traveled, the page may be blank. However, if you’ve traveled, you can scroll down to see the places you’ve visited on specific days and times.

TIMELINE CHECK.

Your Timeline shows the locations you’ve visited on a day-by-day basis, as shown in the image below. This information appears on your timeline page on your desktop and in the Android app on your device. In order to view all of the features and in detail, then it is recommended that you check the timeline on your desktop. You will be able to view a map of the world with points on places you have visited. You can zoom into specific locations for detailed views and addresses. The timeline also displays if you walked, drove, or flocked to a specific location.

If you use Google Photos Chronology will show pictures you clicked along the way. If you assign names to frequently visited places like – work, vacation and home in Google Maps, they will be labeled the same as in your timeline as well. You can also use the timeline feature, which allows you to export geographic data as a KML file, and look at it in Google Earth, where it will play in animation

EDITING TIMELINE

Google Timeline doesn’t display accurate data all the time. Sometimes it shows the wrong location or doesn’t show the location you remember visiting. If you encounter similar inaccuracies, you can select individual locations in your timeline to change the stated location or remove it from the day without removing all others. The steps to change the timeline on your desktop, Android or iPhone remain the same, but depending on your device, the options may vary.

DISABLE LOCATION HISTORY

If you don’t want Google to track you all the time, you can disable this Location History option. To disable Google Location History on your desktop: – Go to the Timeline page and click the Pause Location History button. To turn off Google Location History on Android: – On your phone, select Settings> Location> Google Location History and toggle Off to disable location history. To turn off Google Location History for firmware: 1. open the Google app on your device. 2. Select Settings> Privacy> Location> History> Not Store. When you disable Location History, Google Maps stops collecting the places you visit with your device to add them to your Location History map. Google warns that disabling location history will limit the functionality of some Google products, such as Google Maps and Google Now. You should also be aware that delaying Location History has not turned off geodata or location services for this device. It is good to decide prudently the services that you want to enable or disable.

DELETE LOCATION HISTORY

To delete all or a range of location data: From the Timeline page, select the Settings icon in the lower right corner and select Delete Location History Range or Delete Location History. Tracked sounds scary, but it’s not, because you can always turn this option off or on. You can also delete the entire history or delete details on a specific day or time.

EXCEPTION

If you have any questions about this topic, please feel free to ask in the comments section. We at TechWelkin and our reader community will try to help you. Thank you for using TechWelkin! If you use Google Maps often, you probably know (or maybe not) that it keeps a detailed history of all the places you’ve been, whether you use navigation or not. We’ll tell you how to delete that data. Google Maps stores your travel history in several different places: “Chronology” and “Map History.” “Chronology” is a very detailed description of where you’ve been, even if you didn’t use navigation to get there (yes, your phone tracks your every move). “Map History” is just the places you have used navigation to get there.

HOW TO CHANGE OR DELETE INDIVIDUAL ENTRIES FROM GOOGLE MAPS TIMELINE

I’m using Android in this article, but the steps for iOS are exactly the same. To access the timeline launch Google Maps and swipe to the right or click on the three bars in the upper left corner to open the menu. Select “Chronology.”

The default view is the mini-map at the top of the screen and a preview of your most recent places at the bottom. To edit (or delete) any of these locations, just click on the entry. From here, you can edit the entry by tapping the “Edit” button, which will allow you to change the time and specify the exact location if it is inaccurate. To delete an entry, click on the trash can icon in the upper right corner. A pop-up window will appear in which you need to confirm the deletion of the record.

HOW TO STOP (AND DELETE ALL) LOCATION HISTORY TRACKING IN GOOGLE MAPS

You don’t have to delete each entry separately. You can delete all of your data from the timeline. While in Chronology, press the three dots in the upper right corner, then select Settings. It’s actually quite difficult to completely disable the timeline, because it can negatively affect other aspects of navigation. But if you want to remove entries from the timeline, go to the bottom of the timeline settings page and disable the “Location History Enabled” option. You can disable location history for a specific device or altogether – just click the appropriate switch. The top switch will disable location history tracking on all devices, and the switch next to the device name will simply disable it on that particular device.

You can also delete your location history if you want. You can do this in two ways: “Delete All Location History” or “Delete Part of Location History.” These are the last two options on the timeline settings page. To delete the entire location history, click this option. A warning will appear that this action cannot be undone and may affect applications that use your location history. If you agree, check the “Yes, delete” box and click “Delete”. If you only want to delete your location history for a period, then select the “Delete part of location history” option. Specify the start date of the period and the end date and click “Continue”. A warning will appear again, check the “Yes, delete” box and click “Delete”.

HOW TO DELETE THE NAVIGATION HISTORY

Deleting your navigation history is a little more complicated because there is no way to delete everything with one click – you can only delete individual entries.

First, launch Google Maps. Open the menu by swiping to the right or by tapping the three bars in the upper left corner. Scroll down the menu, there you will see the “Settings” item, click on it. Here, find and click on “History”. Here you will see all the routes you have used while navigating. It is not possible to clear all the data at once, so you will have to delete them individually by tapping the X on the right side. After pressing the X you will get a small warning that this entry will be deleted from the Map History. Confirm the deletion by tapping the “Delete” button.

Every smartphone has a great app from Google called Google Maps. Most people use it solely for navigation purposes or to find a specific place/address. But today we’re going to tell you how to use this handy program to keep track of your child’s (or other family member’s) location! And at the end, we’ll show you a few more cool Google Maps features that not everyone is aware of.

BEFORE WE GET STARTED…

You need to understand that in order to determine the exact location, you need to have a smartphone that meets certain requirements, namely:

– The smartphone must have the Google Maps application installed

– The phone must have Internet access all the time (i.e. 3G/4G Internet access must be configured and activated). – Geolocation services (GPS) must be on all the time It should be noted right away that all of these requirements will not have much effect on battery consumption.

Most likely, on your smartphone, all these three points are already fulfilled (the application Google Maps is installed “out of the box”, you already use the Internet, and geolocation services are needed for a very large number of applications, so they are active by default). If the smartphone of your child or other loved one meets these requirements, then let’s proceed with a very simple configuration and activation of the tracking function.

SETTING UP THE SMARTPHONE TO BE ABLE TO TRACK THEIR LOCATION

First of all, get the smartphone that we want to track. For example, let’s say it’s your kid’s smartphone. Browse the Maps app and launch it: After launching, go to the menu (click the icon in the upper left corner) and select the item Transmit geodata : Now you need to select the contacts with whom you want to share your location (that is, to whom your child’s smartphone will send its location data).

Pay attention to the item Show my location , here you need to select Until I turn off : Sometimes only one button Contacts may be displayed instead of a list of contacts : Press it and find your data. After this simple procedure, your smartphone will notify you that the user now shows you their location: That’s it!

Now you can easily see where the phone of your loved one is. To do this, launch the Maps application and immediately see, in addition to your location (shown by the blue arrow ), also information about the location of loved ones (shown by the red arrows ):

For more convenience, you can do the following:

– Click on the user icon

– Open the menu to the right of the user’s name.

– Select Add to Home Screen

Now the selected person’s icon will appear on your smartphone’s home screen, opening it will immediately show their location.

GOOGLE MAPS IS WATCHING YOU ALL THE TIME AND… IT’S SCARY FUN!

Want to rewind time and see a detailed report of where you were yesterday or last week? Do you think that’s impossible? After all, you haven’t installed any special apps! Well, not really. Well, Google Maps keeps a pretty detailed timeline of your travels.

But to see it, you’ll need to do a few things:

– Start Google Maps.

– Open the menu and click Chronology.

– Press the Start button.

What’s funny is that the Start button doesn’t mean “start following me” at all, because by clicking it, you can see your smartphone’s location history for any period of time: On some smartphones, though, you don’t even have to click anything, the program will show you the timeline right away. If you want to do the same trick with another person’s smartphone, you can’t do it remotely. You need to have direct access to the smartphone.

NAVIGATION WITH GOOGLE MAPS WITHOUT AN INTERNET CONNECTION

The only disadvantage of the Maps app is that you need the Internet to make it work. Sometimes it is very expensive (if, for example, you are abroad and there is no sim-card of the local operator) or simply impossible (not everywhere there is internet or even cellular service).

But even this problem can be easily solved using the standard Google Maps function:

– Open the Google Maps app. – Open the menu and select Offline Maps

– Press Select Map

– Choose the necessary “piece” of map (a city or a certain region)

– Press Download button
